Sewing Mojo Rescue

My sewing mojo has taken quite a severe hit! It all started in May time, when I suddenly swapped the dark sewing room for the back garden. After that initial hit, came the anxiety ridden last minute preparations for my wedding. I had absolutely no motivation or time to sew. Now I'm finally married (photos to come, including details of a very special dress made by a very special seamstress) but my sewing mojo is still affected. It is quite annoying as I am itching to sew but just can't seem to get myself sewing. Hope is on the way though, thanks to the talented Tasia from Sewaholic and a yet unknown to me but I'm pretty sure talented Megan Nielsen.
I received the Alma Pattern on the post yesterday and it really fired me up to do it. The plan is to do a wearable muslin out of View A followed by a version of C (with collar). Fabric is chosen!
Megan Nielsen most recent pattern release, the Kelly skirt fired me too. It's adorable but what won it for me was the high waist. I placed an order from Australia so it might be a few weeks to get it. Very curious to see how these patterns sew up and fit.

What do you think of these patterns? Planning to sew any of them?

  1. I love both of these! I am definately going to get Alma, but I'm trying to talk myself out of Kelly because I really don't need another skirt pattern. But I have a feeling I may give in!!! Good luck with yours. :)

  2. Congratulations on your marriage! Can't wait to see your dress...

If I stop sewing for more than a few days at a time, I stop sewing for months! But once I do a little, I am obsessed all over again. I bet this will happen for you, too. You'll find something that will entice you and suddenly, bam! You're back!

Don't worry about it though, whatever you do. Just take it as it comes and enjoy doing other things. It's pointless trying to sew if you kind of don't feel like it!

I like both those patterns. I'm just waiting for Susan at Sew Box to get the Sewaholic one in (around 12th August) and I'll be off!

Enjoy whatever you are doing, won't you!

  3. I am stalking the postman for my Kelly pattern to arrive from Australia - I just couldn't wait for the UK stockists to get it in - this way I pay just an extra £1 for delivery straight to me! I don't know about the Alma - I think I would look frumpy in it.

  4. Ooo I love version C of the Sewaholic top, will have to remember to check back and see how it turned out for you. Given the horrible weather we've had most of this year I've decided long sleeve tops will be much more useful than short sleeve ones lol.

  5. Great post. I've been in the same boat for most of the summer. Just not motivated at all. The weather has been too nice too coop myself up in the house. Thank goodness for sewalongs keeping me at least a little on track. Last night I made a wearable muslin of Macaron for the Colette sewalong and I think that's got my mojo fired back up.

I got my Alma pattern last week and I think it's going to be great. Can't wait to see what you come up with. There are so many cute variations with that pattern.
Congratulations on your marriage. Post photos soon.
