You know that heart sinking moment when you realised you done something wrong in your sewing process?
I had some problems with grain on the cotton drill for my Beignet skirt. Frustrated, I decided to cut pieces on single layer, which took longer but meant grain was found. However something else quite terrible happened!! Can you guess?
I'll give a still undecided but sewing related small prize to first comment to answer correctly. I'm going to sulk somewhere now.
lol, I have done that ! Did you find that you didn't have the 2 pieces as opposites to each other - rather you had pieces that were all the same and therefore not so easy to sew together ! I NEVER remember to place a pattern piece on the wrong side, doh! Good luck tho, as I love that skirt, cant wait to see yours made up :-)

I was also going to say that you forgot to flip the pattern to get mirror images of each piece. Someone beat me to it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry! I was also going to guess that you forgot to flip the pattern to make the reverse pieces, as I've done that before. I hope a bit of sleep makes the whole thing seem less awful.
ReplyDeleteDon't have enough fabric is my guess...I always end up a smidge short..
ReplyDeleteI think it's the piece flipping. I've done that. Oh, I know the sinking feeling. Just remember - it will be alright. In a worst case scenario, you can get more fabric. And I like to tell myself, when I make an error that's irrevocable, that I'll never make that mistake again. Maybe it's even true :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you have 2 pieces for the same side and none for the other. heheheh! It's so easy to forget to flip the pattern over!
ReplyDeleteOk,You got the grain but the seams were different? The other options were taken.. I am sure Dibs got it right as I also did that mistake once..

I'd guess you cut two left fronts or two right (like most others here). I once knitted 2 right fronts to a cardigan from a Japanese chart - I got almost all the way to the neck shaping before I realised what I'd done! That's got to be worse than cutting a wrong piece! xxx

ReplyDeleteMrs.Exeter: two of the same on knitting must be awful. I'll try an remember when I start the front to the cardi I'm doing.
Is it because it's princess cut you've mixed up the grain in the pieces so some go one way and the others got the other? And due to the nature of the pattern, it wont work out neatly.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I can think of if it's not forgetting to flip the pattern or turn the fabric right/wrong way...

ReplyDeleteAw, I have no idea what your mistake was but I really really hope you have enough fabric to fix it! When I made mine, I almost cut the on the fold pieces on the princess lines instead of the center lines ... I hope you didn't do that!
