In construction, other musings and your feedback welcomed!

Sewing has been slow here, but I reckon you already noticed that. It has been slow for quite some time but it's not because my love for it has waned. The reasons are far more annoying but I won't dwell on them. I have been sewing and knitting and have some works in progress.

First my Couture Dress from Crafsty Susan Khalje class. I'm not quite sure when I started this, probably  a year ago. I almost chucked this project to the UFO bin, I'm just not loving it. The class is fantastic and the sewing tuiton by Susan amazing. But I'm not loving the dress. It doesn't help that it's intended to be a work dress, I know...how exciting! Still, I decided I need to overcame this and just get it done. I'm in the process of assembling (hand basting) the whole dress to check fit once more. When this is done I'll get a photo of it, below is an earlier photo of the fitting of the muslin.
Second the last episode on my Skirt trilogy. This is actually the first skirt pattern I decided to use and the fabric will be familiar as well. Fabric is cut and all is ready to sew.
I was planning on sewing the vintage dress briefly mentioned here and have traced all the pattern pieces but after thinking long and hard decided not to start a complicated project before I finish the one in progress.
I have also been knitting this lovely cardigan from A Stitch in Time. The back is all done and currently doing one of the fronts.

A few other important musings:
  • I changed the look of the blog (and will tweak a bit more). I want to revert this blog to a personal sewing blog.
  • That is why the Suzy Patterns banner is gone. Suzy Patterns hasn't been scrapped though, it's still a work in progress. When I am ready to launch, a new website, separate to this blog will be launched. This might be a while, a proper while. A Suzy Patterns tab will be added where any news or a current status will be available.
  • I am also adding an "About me tab". Something different from the conventional and pre-set about me in blogger.
So I welcome your feedback? Do you like the new look, anything that looks bad and anything else you'd like to see? And is there anything about me you would like to know? Ask me any question!

  1. Your blog looks great - sometimes a change is needed and all the motivation comes flying back. I just signed up for the Craftsy course, also with an 'exciting' work dress in mind. We should be making partying dresses...

  2. I really struggled to finish mine, if you don't feel like finishing it, make another dress with the knowledge. The class is great for couture aficionados.

    1. I am seriously considering it but keep thinking about the fabric waste. The class is fantastic but I'm beginning to think I like the occasional couture technique only and not the whole process.

  3. Hi Suzy, sorry you haven't had as much sewing time as you would like. I think an about me page is a great idea, and l look forward to news on patterns on the future, whenever that may be. I have got tons of unfinished projects, and have also vowed not to start anything else.

  4. I think the sweater is coming along fabulously, and the new look is great. I say, take your time developing the patterns. You have so many things on your plate right now - but there will be lots of opportunity in the future.

  6. Loving the new look, and if you need a hand with any coding feel free to drop me a line. Glad to see you're still sewing, I do like that skirt and the cardi's colour will look fantastic on you once done. I'm in awe of your patience when it comes to knitting, I just can't hack it!

    1. Thank ou so much, I might take on that offer. Funny enough, my husband is a software programmer but there's a good saying about that. Can't remember the english version, just the portuguese one.

  7. Yey for knitting!!!!! As you know I'm totally hooked now as well. I can't wait to see the finished piece. The pattern looks great.
I like the changes you have made on your blog. It's sometimes necessary, I think. It can be hard sticking to regular blog posts and staying inspired through the years. A fresh look added to ones blog can make quite a difference.
    Good luck with Suzy patterns.

  8. Your blog looks great! I just found it, but it looks good to me.

I am also taking the couture dress class and am at the basting point. I chose a night out kind of dress and am feeling glad I did after reading about everyones frustrations about making a work dress. I would love to see your fashion fabric if you decide to finish the dress. The muslin looks great!
