And there was a muslin...again

But this time the muslin is right. I seem to have finally cracked my kimono sleeved bodice fitting nightmare and this version (not my second or third) seems to be right. I obviously will not find out for sure until I sew it up in the fashion fabric. Wool behaves different from calico but I hope it will be a good fit. Excuse my figure in the photos. I have foam curlers in my hair but thought a touch of lipstick would make the photo more presentable.
The bodice was not the issue as it fits right. I was a bit unhappy with the sleeves at the shoulders but they lay flatter on this version. I think on the first photo I was slouching and that's why you see bunching up.
The back had the biggest issues and I'm happy that changes done have sorted that extra fabric at the back.
The pattern pieces after all the changing look horrendous but if final goal of fit is achieved it doesn't really matter. And finally I can abandon the world of muslins for a bit and start cutting into my yummy wool flannel. Wish me luck!!

  2. You've cracked it Suzy! It will definitely be worth all the extra effort with the muslins - it's a perfect fit. And it's going to look stunning in wool. x

  5. I think you're right on both counts, you've nailed it and lipstick always jazzes up a picture. I can't wait to see this finished in the actual fabric, I think it's going to look amazing on you.

  7. It is really coming along. One suggestion - lower the point of the bust dart about 1/4-1/2 inch. It appears to end at the apex and should end just below. I wonder if a small gusset (diamond shaped) under the arm might release the fabric on the upper arm a bit to eliminate yhe bunch. On the whole it is soooo much better and will be great in the wool.

  11. Suzy, you look darling btw - love the curler look- really cute! I am also really impressed with the patience you have & glad that you can see it's working out for you. Can I ask why it's always the back where the problems are?? Drives me crazy!

  12. Thank you all for your lovely comments!

Marty J: you are right, the dart should not finish right at the bust point so will lower that about 1/2. The sleeves have a gusset at the underarm. I did try to get away without one but it would be impossible to raise my arm (especially as I'm doing a long sleeve.)

Scruffybadger: Funny about the back isn't it? I really don't understand and with this pattern it puzzled me. Such a cute number for a 1950s bust 30 lady but with what deformity in the back. Who knows
